I stand in awe when I watch the news and I see these so called "Celebs" and their never ending quest to stay in the spotlight. It is pathetic. We as a society have made celebrities of people who in other generations would have been a nobody. When you look back at some of the stars of the past they were true Hollywood. Dean Martin singing, acting and joking. Sammy Davis Jr. dancing. Tito Puente playing music, etc.. Now we are given The Kardashians, Teen Mom Farrah Abraham and anyone who shows their ass on YouTube.
The problem is that we continue to give these losers attention. We put them on the cover of our newspapers, the nightly news puts their stories ahead of real world issues and we follow their Instagram accounts closer than our own family. But I do not know what is worse, our sad obsession with them? Or their desperate attempts to stay "relevant" in the non-stop media blitz that we now live in?
For example; the Kardashian clan is popular for a pathetic sex tape that was made with the brother of a washed up rapper. Really? I can't even put a number on the amount of sex tapes that are probably out there with singers and groupies. But apparently this one was conveniently "leaked" and now we have been stuck with this family ever since. It's like that cousin that you don't admit you're related to in public but you love to watch the shit mess that they call life unravel like a fruit roll up. And what happens when the shimmer of this fame begins to fade? They do something "outrageous" so their name is back in the paper. Case in point, Kourtney is old and boring so last week while food shopping I am hit in the face with a slew of magazines saying that she's banging Justin Bieber... Seriously? Is the desire to stay in the spotlight so strong that you would fall that low?
I also laugh at the Teen Moms that we have turned into "Celebs". Now, I have nothing negative about young moms but she would honestly promote teen pregnancy by giving every girl who gets knocked up her own television show? What does this teach our young girls? Screw it, skip school, let your boyfriend slip one past the goalie and you'll be set for a few years with your own show, book deals and magazine interviews. My favorite of this group is Farrah Abraham. To call her a mother is an insult to true parents because she spends little to no time actually raising the child. She does spend the majority of her time getting breast implants, posing nude and making porn flicks. I love the title of the "movie" too. Back Door Teen Mom, Now I do not mean to be crass and I barely passed biology but I'm pretty confidant to say that if it was "Back Door" she wouldn't be a teen mom.
You even have the girls from the Jersey Shore writing books on parenting. That is the same as Jeffrey Dahmer writing a book on how to cook for friends or Scott Wieland penning a book on sobriety.
This list could go on with pseudo celebs for ever. It is sad that they take up valuable time in our papers, news and magazines. We are all to blame for clicking on their links, watching their shows and buying their magazines.
I have to go now, I just set my camera up to record myself riding a dwarf horse, while wearing a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleading outfit, playing a ukulele all while beating a midget with a twizzler... I am going to be famous!
