Unless you are extremely wealthy or find yourself eating bologna off hand (because you cannot afford the bread) it really doesn't matter to you who is holding the position of commander in chief. For the majority of us middle class working stiffs, absolutely nothing will change regardless of who wins in November. We can put all the bumper stickers on our cars that we can find and adorn our lawns with signs supporting our candidate, it is all for naught...
You see, you may have one president who rolls up his sleeves and takes off the tie to try and achieve that regular guy look while another president may keep his jacket on at all times and that top button on his shirt secure until he puts his jammies on in the Lincoln bedroom. Do you know what they both have in common? Neither of them can relate to you and I!!! They have never had to decide between putting gas in the car and buying lunch. The thought of taking a semester off from school due to financial stress never troubled them. They have attended different schools than the rest of us, they vacation in different places and hang out in much different circles all before they ever even took the oath of office. So why would any sane person think that any standing president feels their pain? Knows their struggle?
Every single person who has ever had the honor of being the President of the United States was a wealthy man. From George Washington to Barack Obama most of them were in fact millionaires!!! They are not troubled by the housing crisis and could give two s**ts about the rising price of gas so why would they go and do anything about it?
Their supporters, and I mean real supporters, are their sole concern. You know that guy who plops down five thousand dollars per plate at a benefit dinner for the president? I would bet that the president is a little bit more concerned about his happiness and well being than you and your 2012 sticker, no offense.
Do you remember the inauguration? It was an incredible night, I cannot argue that. But one thing stuck out in my mind. There was a girl there saying that if she cannot pay her electic bill, the president would be there for her. Really? Was that part of his campaign? At no point in all of the jetsetting around the country did I ever hear him mention taking care of my utilities bill... It is safe to say that if that girl didn't wise up fast she is currently reading this on her i-phone, in the dark by candle light.
Think about the insane amount of money that one spends to run for president. On average, candidates will spend roughly 1/4 of a billion dollars!!! Yes, 250 million dollars... for a job that supposedly only pays 400k a year? For a job that no matter what you do, half of your country usually disagrees with you? I am sure that there are some other perks provided by those whom the president is a little bit more concerend about than you and me.
This is not a jab at the President. In fact, I like Barack Obama. But the fact of the matter remains, no matter who wins on that fateful Tuesday, come Wednesday moring my fat a** is back to the grind trying to make a living and the man sitting in that oval office really could not care less. If you think otherwise, maybe you're crazy...
Is it hot in here or am I Crazy?
I think when politicians finish their schooling, they have good intentions .
ReplyDeleteThey want to change the system for the benefit of man.
But only to find out that they did not change the system; the system changed them
Maybe you should run for public office. You got my vote.
ReplyDeleteI think it does matter. To take one easy example, if Gore had beaten Bush there would have been no Iraq war and no Roberts Supreme Court. The economy might still be a disatser, but there's no doubt about those two, which continue to have enormous effects. (Love the blog, Tony!)
ReplyDeleteYou've got me thinking!!! Nicely stated Tony
ReplyDeleteHence the resentment of this Nation...
ReplyDeleteI agree 110%
I would maybe suggest whoever is elected president should do one of those family swaps & spend two weeks in some middle class neighborhood. This would be in the hopes that the President would be a little conscientious.
